Confessions of a Scrunchie Maker

Confessions of a Scrunchie Maker

If you’ve ever said “I definitely don’t need another scrunchie” while actively adding another scrunchie to your basket… welcome. You’re among friends here.

Hi, I’m the person behind Lily’s Scrunchies — which basically means my house now permanently contains:

  • tiny fabric offcuts
  • half-finished ideas
  • approximately 74 cups of cold tea
  • and enough scrunchies to survive several minor emergencies

What started as “I’ll just make a few for fun” quickly turned into me spotting fabric in every shop I enter and saying things like:

“This would make SUCH a cute scrunchie.”

Normal behaviour? Probably not.

Handmade Means Real Life Happens Here

One of the things I love most about running a handmade business is that there’s a real person behind every order.

Which also means there’s usually:

  • a sewing machine running in the background
  • packing orders late at night
  • fabric deliveries that I absolutely did not plan on buying
  • and me convincing myself I’m “just organising” while actually creating more mess

Every scrunchie is handmade in small batches, which means I get to choose fabrics I genuinely love instead of mass-producing the same thing over and over again.

Sometimes there are only one or two available in a fabric — which makes them feel a little bit special.

The Scrunchie Obsession Is Real

At this point, scrunchies are no longer just hair accessories.

They are:

  • emergency wrist decorations
  • outfit accessories
  • heatless curl heroes
  • the answer to “my hair looks awful today”
  • and occasionally stretched to their absolute limit during a “quick messy bun”

No judgement here.

Small Business Reality Check

Running a small business is honestly a mix of:

  • creativity
  • excitement
  • panic
  • and wondering why packaging supplies are so expensive

One minute I feel incredibly organised.

The next minute I’m searching the entire house for scissors that were in my hand 30 seconds ago.

But genuinely — every order means the world to me. When you support a small handmade business, you’re supporting real people, real dreams, and usually someone doing everything themselves while trying not to forget where they left the tape dispenser.

So… Why Lily’s Scrunchies?

Because I wanted to create accessories that feel fun, colourful, comfy, and a little bit joyful.

No complicated fashion rules. No saving things “for best.”

Just lovely handmade pieces you can actually wear every day.

And honestly? If one of my scrunchies makes you feel even 5% more put together on a chaotic day, then I’d call that a success.

Thanks for being here — and for enabling my fabric addiction.
